The Philippines
The Philippines is located in South-East-Asia. North of the Equator and 160 km South of Taiwan. The area of the Philippines is as big as 299.404 sqkm, just a little bit smaller than Germany. It has 7107 islands, only 2000 are inhabited. More than 2500 islands dont even bear names. The biggest islands are Luzon, Mindanao and Palawan.. There is a population of approx. 70 Mio. people; it has a tendency to increase by 2.5 percent a year. The Philippines is the only christianised country in Asia and around 90 percent of all Filipinos are Christians. More than 80 percent of all Filipinos are catholic. There is a Rainy season from June to November, a cool dry season (December to February), and a hot dry season (March to May). The temperatures are between 25 and 40 degrees Celsius.

Here are pictures from an elementary school in Pagadian City on Mindanao. These children were so happy to see white people, because this does not happen often (if at all). They were so glad that we taught them a few words in German. The Filipinos are the friendliest people at all, especially when they are from the country side. You would see seldom Filipinos without a smile in their face, as one can see from these pictures.
